I went to the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC. When I got there, there were a ton of fans who wanted to pet me and spend time talking. After making a lot of great new friends, what I saw was just amazing. They had airplanes, rockets and spacecraft that land on the moon. They even had a rocket-ship I got to walk inside of, that took people into space.

I learned that on Nov. 3, in 1957, the Soviet Union launched the first-ever living animal into orbit: it was a little dog named, Laika, that was chosen. The flight was meant to test the safety of space travel for humans, but it was a guaranteed suicide mission for Laika, since technology hadn’t advanced as far as the return trip.

Laika was a stray, picked up from the Moscow streets just over a week before the rocket was set to launch. Every year I say a little prayer for lonely little Laika and let him know how grateful I am for his sacrifice. He’s a hero of mine and for a lot of dogs I know.

I’d like to go to space too, but not without a return trip. My adventurous side only goes so far. As you will see, I saw so much really neat stuff and I made so many new friends, that I forgot all about swimming and my ball that whole day.
